I have a 2002 DTS with 137,000 miles. Two months ago a whining noise started when the engine is started when cold. It is coming from the front drivers side and sounds like a turbine whirling. It will last as long as the rpms stay up at 1200. After about 30 secs the engine idles normally and the "turbine" sound slowly stops.

It sounds like it is coming from above the transmission fill (or maybe in it)and even if you shift trans before the engine idles down to 700 rpm, the whining noise will continue until around the 30 sec mark.

If you turn the engine off before the 30 sec idle time who can hear the whine slowly come to a stop.

Any help before a trip to the shop would be greatly appreciated.
