Default exhalation as a source of carbon and energy

too funny, and true .. you cant make this stuff up ....
-----------------------------------

According to scientist and inventor Markus Herrema, Cow "exhaust"
accounts for "about 20% of global methane emissions, and atmospheric
methane accounts for over twenty percent of planetary warming."

Markus has solved the problem by collecting the methane from cows.
his invention "utilizes the methane contained within ruminant animal
exhalation as a source of carbon and energy for the production of
methane-utilizing microorganisms in a microorganism growth-and-harvest
apparatus."- feeds it to microbes to make biomass, which "can be processed
and sold as a nutritional foodstuff".

if you think i'm kidding, here is the patent application:

Curbing Cow Farts Down Under
By Emil Steiner
August 18, 2006

A team ofAustralianscientistshas launcheda multi-million dollar
project to fight global warming through a reduction inbovine flatulence.

The goal is tobreed cows that produce moremilk with less methane
excretion--which believe it or notaccounts forover halfofNew Zealand's
greenhouse gas emissions.

Despite recent setbacks, such asthe ill-fated "fart tax" of 2003,
officialssay evidenceindicates"that if cows are more efficient milk
producers, they produce less methane."
