rear air suspension in 1971 eldo and 01 deville

coincidentally am having the same issue ( or what appears to be ) in both of my caddies. the 2001 deville rear air shocks ( or whatever they are called) have crapped out and the compressor that pumps them runs more than it should.....seems like the original part is no longer available and was wondering what my choices are.

AND on my 1971 eldo, it seems i may be having the same issue as well. took it out for a spin the other day, pumped up the rear shocks and the slipped quickly back down....it was cold out and the can had been cold for a while so maybe i get lucky and next time and they hold....wonder what my options are there as well

RE: rear air suspension in 1971 eldo and 01 deville

New air shocks available for both, Delco makes a kit for 01 which the parts cost 1/2 OEM, however are more labor intensive if you want level ride to work. A/M air shocks still should be available for the 71. In either case the "Delco" slip on air line connection will not work.

It sounds to me like you have a hole or cracks in your airbag. The dealership typically diagnoses it as the compressor but that is only to keep you coming back and wasting more money on something that will never truly be fixed. The airbag is the problem now but the compressor has to work extra hard because it is like blowing up a balloon with a hole in it. Therefor the airbag will kill the compressor. I would recommend going to strutmasters.com and taking a look at our conversion kits. these convert you from the airbag to a powder coated American made steel coil spring that is guaranteed to last the life of the car. This is a PERMANENT fix. I added the link below so you can check it out.

hope I was of some help

Good Luck!!!
