Protecting exposed metal

Paint is going on my classic caddy...peeling in some spots..exposing the metal. What do I do to prevent rust and corrosion from setting in before it's too late? I'm not ready to do a paint job yet, so I need to protect it now....Products? Techniques? Sand? Prime?

well if your not caring how it looks until you get it painted, and i know it sounds cheep but, put some rustolum (sp) on it. they have colors that might match close enough. if there is a little service rust, id make sure and get that off first, before you put the paint on. thats what id do, maybe someone has another opinion. hang in good luck

RE: Protecting exposed metal

Just about anything that seals the metal from the oxigen & moisture in the air will prevent rust.
