Default Spring Dilemma with 1991 Cadillac Brougham

Hi all,

I have a 1991 Cadillac Brougham d'Elegance with the 5.7L 350 engine and the front springs and shocks are totally shot. Every single bump on the road is felt and the ride quality is appalling! So I am going to replace the shocks and springs. I have been looking at the MOOG springs and the 5396 is the fitment for the 90-92 Brougham with a spring rate of 389lb and a load of 2050lb and a height of 12". However, the MOOG 5402 spring has almost the exact same specs in height and width but with a comparatively softer 338lb spring rate, but a load of 1907lb. I would like to go for the softer 5402 but with the 143lb difference in load rate affect the ride height and make the front sag? If anyone knows MOOG springs, the help would be much appreciated. Thanks everyone!

I would replace shocks first, with normal not heavy duty. If front ride height is not low springs maybe ok. It your car is a factory 350 car has trailer package. 350 wasn't available on base car. I would get springs by application not by spring spec.s Because I occasionally like drive too fast on twisty roads my spring rates would be in the 600s and a 10 inch spring ....riding like a dump truck.

It leans forward by a couple of inches so yeah it looks like the springs are starting to go. It had Gabriel Ultras in it which I believe are too stiff and the heavy duty tow package springs I'm sure what the spring rate is, if the 5396 springs are for the regular base model, I'm not sure what the spring rate for the 350 tow package one might be? The car never really rode like a true cadillac, its a combination of floaty of nice roads, and a dump truck on rough roads.

Also, does anyone know what the absolute spongiest, softest, most cadillac broughamiest shocks I can get my hands on would be?
