SMP DV84 Air Management Valve Diverter Valve GM# 17090215 ACDelco 214-123



This is the Air Management Diverter valve for cadillac 4.5 V8 engines. Non-functioning valve operation indicated by E049 code. This unit is used, however has been thoroughly inspected and tested for function. Both solenoids are functioning and in good order, as indicated with the ohm meter are in specification. O-rings between selenoids and valve assembly have been replaced new. Diaphragms are in pristine condition. Valve completely seals and diverts air to correct passages. This item is discontinued, no longer produced and very difficult to find. I plan to touch up the unit cosmetically prior to shipment (repaint the top of the valve and rings). It is critical to replace, or inspect, BOTH check valves on the exhaust lines that go to this valve. Many valves have failed because of a faulty check valves allowing hot exhaust gas to enter the valve destroying the diaphragms. As of Jan. 1st of this year, at least in the state of Connecticut, vehicles 25 years and older are exempt from emissions. Although this valve is part of the emission control system, an improper functioning unit will skew oxygen sensor readings and cause fuel trim balance issues and idle problems. Removal of the smog pump, or valve, and plugging the manifold orifices is a cheap alternative but will not eliminate the E049 code being set, and will increase time for oxygen sensors to heat to go into closed loop operation. I believe under WOT the valve diverts all air back into the intake as well allowing the engine to breath better as supposed to robbing intake air to the cat; thus, proper operation of this valve maximizes power.
