Stress

stress

in a meeting, a glass of water is held up and the question asked,
How heavy is this glass of water? Answers called out ranged from 6oz. to 28oz..

The absolute weight doesn't matter. It depends on how long you try to hold it.

hold it for a minute, that's not a problem.
hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm.
hold it for a day, you'll have to see a therapist

In each case it's the same weight, but the longer you hold it, the heavier it becomes.

That's the way it is with stress. If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won't be able to carry on.

As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again. When we're refreshed, we can carry on with the burden.

So,

before you return home tonight, put the burden of work/life down. Don't carry it home. You can again pick it up tomorrow.

before you go to work, put the burden of family life down. Don't take your home troubles to work. You can pick them back up upon returning home.

before too much time passes, take a real vacation. Turn off your cell phone and dont even check messages (have someone else check messages but only for real life and death emergencies), turn off your laptop and leave it in the luggage, dont tell anyone where you are going specially the kids or your sibblings, make sure your neighboor has the name and phone number for your home insurance in case there is a distater.

Whatever burdens you're carrying now, let them down for a moment, if you can, take a 15 minute walk at lunch.

Relax - pick them burdens up later after you've rested 15 minutes. Life is short, very short. Enjoy!
