New favorite shop tool
Check out my new favorite shop tool. I don't know how I got so lucky. I was just in the right place at the right time. I was doing some work at a body shop that was getting some brand new vehicle lifts and the owner asked me if I had any use for his old portable vehicle lift. I said, "Uh, yes!" He said if you can load it up you can have it. Oh, I loaded it up alright. Its a Snap On brand, 6000 lb capacity portable vehicle lift. It raises the car up to 36" off the ground and locks in position. It has a 110v hydraulic pump. And it fits under my 05 CTS. Its primarily used for tire and brake jobs but you can get to the oil pan and rear dif but not the tranny. I never thought I'd own one, certainly didn't think I'd ever BUY one but when it falls into your lap, what are you supposed to do?

BTW, you can get to the trany, just have to be resourceful .. once the car is way up. stack the bricks under the tires then move the lift to clear the tranny. RE: Snap On lift
Well, this is certainly a luxury tool. The racecar lives on 4 jackstands. I can do anything to it like that. The CTS is kind of difficult to jack up. I can lift the front under the crossmember but I'm hesitant to try and lift the back under the differential. The back end is so low I can't really pump the handle anyway. There doesn't seem to be a good place to lift from the sides either. This will eliminate any of those concerns.

Walmart also has 2-ton bottle jacks for $9. Amazing what one can do with a set of 4. my favorite is a small 2 ton floor jack that costed $15. i just swapped 8 tires, two cars, with two of those floor jacks. yours would have made it even easier, but i dont have one at home. i gotta look into this one, it fits in the glove box: 8 in.L x 4 1/2 in.W x 2 1/2 in.H with a lift range of 1 in. to 3 in. Handle is 6 1/4 in. long. https://www.cadillacforum.com/upfile...B3AEE549F3.jpg . |
