A Japanese journalist reportedly had the following experience when test driving a pre-release model of the GT-R. As he approached the main entry gate of Suzuka International Circuit, the car’s GPS-equipped computer warned him in a pleasant voice that once he entered the circuit, the car’s warranty would be voided. The navigation screen then gave him an "Accept" screen, requiring him to push "Accept" to get rid of the voice. After a couple more times, the voice issued a final warning that the vehicle was recording his driving habits and any damage done to the vehicle at the circuit would not be covered under the new-car warranty at a Nissan dealership. This story seemed to confirm all the fears that the Japanese aftermarket had about the GT-R being a very difficult vehicle to modify. Once it was in the hands of the 10 or so companies that showed their vehicles at the Tokyo Auto Salon, however, the car proved to be less sensitive to simple modifications than recent Toyota and Lexus releases, for example. For a start, the vehicle will let you add aftermarket wheels and tires without any problems. Some recent Toyota and Lexus models will not even let you do tire rotation without the entire dash turning red as a "danger warning" when you turn on the ignition. It reportedly costs about $200 USD and a trip to the nearest Toyota dealer to get the dash back to normal again. [:o] |

[:o] I can envision the possibilities, of government abuse .. the courts, the police, the paparazzi, the stalkers, all getting access in some way to data for purposes not meant to be. For those that "love" the OnStar ssytem .. read on ... Me for one, OnStar, thanks but no thanks ... I am not willing to lose my Official Stealth status. "Starting 2009, General Motors will equip new vehicles with an updated OnStar version that allows police to remotely halt the vehicle. Customers can opt out of that function, but critics doubt that this decision will be honored in all cases. Also it could give someone who hacked into the system control over the car. Critics raise questions about whether police or others could make use of OnStar's tracking, whether legally or illegally, for surveillance or stalking. Privacy advocates worry that innocent citizens may be hassled by the authorities due to false alarms. At least one group, OnStar Privacy, has dedicated a website to privacy concerns of the service. Concerns have also been raised about what could be done with the data collected and stored by the vehicles' MVEDR, which is analogous to those on airplanes but not as sophisticated and do not currently function as a digital recorder. For example, privacy advocates worry that auto dealers could use data to suggest that the user engaged in reckless driving and therefore violated the terms of the vehicle’s warranty, or insurance companies could use said data as the basis for denying claims. Voice monitoring capability is marketed as OnStar Hands-Free Calling. They must be selling to many cars, so they added this stuff to reduce their market share. With the GT-R the review may kill it in the Largest Market in the World. People don't buy supercars to drive 5 under the speed limit to keep warranty intact. If NISSAN says it was a mistake and it being dissabled will anyone believe them? As with anyone selling anything if you abuse your buyers you can count the days on the calender till your out of business. Big brother or not.

However activating Nissan’s technologically advanced, state of the art LAUNCH CONTROL can get this down to less than 3.3 SECONDS. REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-DICULOUS!!!!!!!!!! To activate LAUNCH CONTROL you must switch the Transmission and Damping and VBC settings to R (which stands for RACE or REDICULOUS). Once it is activated, the driver can pin the BRAKE and throttle down while the computer magically prepares for LAUNCH @ 4500rpm. Sounds as fun as I would imagine preparing the Millennium Falcon to enter lightspeed! Braking It requires 15-inch rotors, six-piston Brembo calipers and sticky Bridgestone Potenza RE070R rubber to bring a 3,836-pound GT-R to rest from 60 mph in only 104 feet. That’s only 1 foot longer than the Porsche 911 Turbo equipped with the $8,800 ceramic composite brake package. GM engineering released:
Aftermarket "hot cals" are showing up and DO cause engine damage that will be notwarrantable. These are not longer invisble to engineering. there is a movement in Powertrain or a piece of unerasable memory, accessible only this engineering tools, that will keep permanet record of last 10 downloads to controller. Even though some supertechs hot rod reprogrammers may see it, they won't be able to alter it. ECM in question could be sent to dephi for analysis. One case listed: redline raised to 6250 PE Fuel leaned out,MAP enable increased - reason unknown throttle enable decreased idle speed increased to 600rpm spark traction cal'd out a/c torque limit cal'd out ESC recovery rate increased added launch spark hot Vehicle blew 2 engines before reflash was detected, This may lead to new ecm with major powertrain failures and a nasty bill from if caught with "hot cal" |
