1994 Concours Fuel Pump Confusion

I have a 1994 Cadillac Concours with about 125K. About a month ago it would quit running while I was driving. I could stop and start it again and it would start and run OK. After several checks I found that the fuel pump pressure was about 20lbs and should be a minimum of 38lbs. (I have the FSM)

I pulled the tank and discovered I had the EPT (early version) fuel pump and sending unit. I grabbed a Denso at O'Riley's and I am having trouble getting the replacement Denso to work. I looked at the AC Delco replacement (EP307) and it has some language that sounds like it should only be used with the EPV (second version).

The early version (EPT) has three clip-on ports on top of the sending module. The second version has two clip on ports and a third (middle ) on top that is shorter than the outer two. I question whether the clip will work on the middle port on the EPV if I try to use the EPV sending unit. It appears that the EPT/EPW sending unit and pump assemblies are not interchangeable with the EPV because of the connections. However, the language about using the AC Delco EP307 pump with the EPV is confusing.

Does anyone have any clue as to what can and can't be done with these two different fuel pumps?
