82 Eldorado Starting problems
Hi I hope someone can help! We are in Australia and have an 82 Eldorado Biarritz 4.1 V8 that we purchased in Arizona in Oct. We drove about 1500 trouble free miles back to LA and dropped it off at a shipping agent. When we picked it up in Brisbane it was draining the battery overnight so we disconnected the battery nightly. After a few days the coolant temperature and engine check lights came on but it was not running hot. The next morning it wouldn't start cold, someone suggested the cold start sensor was faulty and to pour fuel into the throttle body till it would run. This worked and it would be fine for the rest of the day. It was okay cold for awhile and would start if I disconnected the TPS then it wouldn't start at all. Our mechanic thought a new ECM, but that didn't work either. Sometimes it starts and sometimes it doesn't. The coolant and temperature lights are still on with the old ECM but with the new ECM there is no display of any lights or codes and the engine runs rough.

Are you using onboard diagnostics? If not look in FAQ If you are will 7.0 come up after codes cycle? What is Fuel Pressure at Key On? Should be 9-15psi. Do both injectors spray fuel? You need to get Factory Service Manual (FSM). Cadillac does a lot of thing that a unique to themselves especially in the early 80s. The Electrical is a separate book.

Thanks, its getting plenty of fuel. We have all the service manuals including the electrical. We will have to find out what codes are coming up, I think it was 52 and 25? The car is at the mechanics!
