98 deville transmission problem

When driving my deville, the check engine light came on followed by a brief whiff (smell) of burning. The dealer told me that GM has a directive that there are some faulty seals inside the transmission, that the torque converter briefly locked up, and its a $2500 repair. The car only has 42,000 miles on it and I found it odd that there would be major transmission problems at such low milage. I added a $10 bottle of transmission reconditioner seal restorer to the newly changed transmission fluid. I also noticed significant corrosion on my battery terminals and cleaned them up (not normally related but I figured with an electronic transmission it sure couldn't hurt) just in case there was some occasional low voltage messing up the transmission silenoid.
So far I have put about 400 miles on it since these small repairs, and the problem has not reoccurred yet? HAS ANYONE HAD TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AT THIS LOW MILAGE? IF SO WHAT DID YOU DO ABOUT IT?
Your input would be greatly appreciated.
