96 Deville Diagnostic Trouble Codes

From new guy. My question is where do I find trouble code information for my 1996 Cadillac Deville 82k. I bought the car a couple weeks ago from Florida and drove it home to Wisconsin without incident and have been enjoying it greatly:). Car is great but I recently purchased remote door openers and was programming them with information from another list. (By the way if anyone's looking for that remote programming information I can send it to them.) There are no apparent active trouble codes but I get history code of "PC1520", "PZ1970" and "RA1771". Car runs and performs wonderfully just curious what this "History" is:eek:?

Thank you
Roger D.

RE: 96 Deville Diagnostic Trouble Codes

if there is no current codes showing thats good. the reason the codes you listed were now "history" is because they are no longer an issue due to the fact that they either were fixed and the code stopped showing because the problem was no longer present, or they are "intermittent" meaning they were current but they in lamens terms, "fixed themselves". i do believe, and anyone can correct me if im wrong, but if a code that is in "history" does not re-occur within 50 ignition cycles (turning the ignition on and off) they will automaticly be erased.

I would reset the codes ASAP and keep an eye on things see if they return.
In some cars the codes live in "history" until one resets the sytem.

I dont really know if some cars reset by themselves.
my cars do not.

That would be nice. I got those bunches of diagnostics codes from my previous experienxce. My infos are quite limited until now. PC1406 = Linear EGR pintle out of position. PC1520 = PRNDL switch problem. PC0603 = Battery was disconnected in the recent past. That's what I can recall so far.
