89 Eldorado Cold Air Filter

Hello fellow Cadillac entusiasts,

I really likethe new filter products, (like K & N)that allow more air to the fuel system by not restricting the air flow as with some conventional filters.

I have a cold air kit installed onone of my other cars but was surprized to find that K & N does not have a filter to fit my 1989 4.5LElDoradowith 113,000 miles. However, K & N and others make a universal cold air filter that attaches with a hose clamp that would easily fit the incoming hose close to the front grill upstream from the filter box.

What do youthink about installingthe universal filterat the hoseopening where the air comes in from the front, removing the original filter, making sure the filter box is sealed anddriving as normal? Does anyone see any problems with this?

Thanks in advance for the help,
Dave

Total waste of time and money. Less restrictive air filters only really help at wide open throttle. The only benefit to a K and N type filter is you buy only one at the price of 4 or 5 stock ones. How long are you keeping the car? to make it wothwhile to spend the extra money.

Carnut,
Thanks for the quick response. You make some good points.

Something else I forgot that others may want to keep in mind, here in California, unless a cold air kit has been blessed with a special stamp, the car will notpass smog. So since no one makes a kit with the stamp for thismodel and many others, the State would consider the car "modified" and may cost the owner a fine as well.

If someone made a better filter to replace the stock one, I would go for that instead. I just want to be sure I can get as much filtered and unrestricted air flow to the engine.

All the best,
DavEldorado
