2000 seville coils

hi. is there a way to test coils,if so how? have had rough idle changed plugs and boots, still rough, any ideas. thanks:confused:

you can take them off and have your local auto parts shop test them. Usually advanced autoparts or auto zonewill test them. do you have a check engine light on if so have that checked out to and see what codes you get. that may tell you what issues you may have relating to the rough idle.

roughht camer on idle

took to autozone because engine light came on they hooked up to diagnostic it said misfire on cyl #8. changed plugs and boots, still misfire took coil off and they said they couldn't test this certain kind of coil??? I'll check for spark the old fashion way and see if i get a spark. I guess i can throw 200.00 for a coil see if it works. Thanks for your thoughts:mad:

if you have access to a junk yard or a "U pull it" and you can find a cady with the same engine and pull the coils off you could save yourself alot of money that way. other wise see if switching it with one of your other coils to see if the misfire moves to a different cylinder. if it doesnt then it may be the ignition module thats bad.
I know this is a common problem due to the location of the coils being on the back side of the engine compartment and being exposed to high temps from the exhaust and not much air circulation. Thats why later on they moved the location of the coils i believe it was twards the top of the engine . Some where i saw a write up online were some people relocated the coils to a spot where the heat wouldnt be as bad and used longer plug wires and made a bracket. This may be more work than its worth but if you plan on keeping the car for some time i guess it wouldnt be such a bad idea if you have the time and effort to put into it. i thought about it but i figure ill mess with it when the time comes.

rough idle

Hi is it possible a bad motor mount could cause rough idle,I noticed when I rev up motor it rocks back and forth,is that normal? thanks:confused:

92_Daddylac 07-29-2011 05:42 AM

wow i have been away for awhile and havent been able to check in as often. the engine will rock a little bit but if its exessive then you have a bad mount. it shouldnt have a big affect on how it idles or runs. the bad mount would cause the engine to not be as secure as it should and cause vibrations while at stop lights, and clunking noises when accelerating or letting off the accelerator.

ok u can test coils
say its the 1/4 measure the ohms
all of the coils should measure about the same
