1979 coupe deville stalled when turned on cruise control
Hi,
My 79 coupe deville stalled while driving it and accidentally hit the cruise control button. Not sure how fast it was going, maybe 45? Now it won't start at all. Just turns over. Found a brown fuse out and replaced it but still no luck. It ran fine before that, any ideas? Something with the ignition or fuel system? |
Stalled
Do you have an electric or manual fuel pump on that model?? If its turning over all you need is fuel and spark. Check for spark at plugs when turning engine over. Then see if you can hear the pump, if electric.

It is electric and I can hear the pump when the car is turned on. I am thinking it is an electrical problem? Any ideas? Also we just replaced the whole fuel system, new fuel pump, lines, filters, about a month ago and it has been running great.
Thanks |
And the spark is good...

Deville stalled
Have you attempted to pour a bit of gas in the carb/throttle body and see if it fires momentarily?? Then you can assume fuel supply problems.Have you had a look at your relay center to see if the ignition relay or the injector relays are good?? Have had a good look at the electrical schematics and can't link the problem to the cruise circuit. As a last resort do a thorough check of all your ground points, and there are a bunch of them.Take connections apart, wire brush them and then put on dielectric grease before reassembly. Good luck and do let us know what the solution might have been.

Codes
Forgot to ask if you had any codes come up on your diagnostics.

This is valuable.

Stalled
The car does fire up momentarily with fuel in the carb/throttle body. It is definitely not getting fuel but still pretty sure it is an electrical issue, just not sure where. we have been cleaning up some of the wiring and the car starts now except as soon as you touch the throttle it stalls. I can hear an arcing/clicking noise when it stalls like there is a bad connection but have not been able to localize it. No diagnostic codes... I think it has a real primitive ecu with lights? Not sure. Will do some more investigating this weekend. Thanks so much for the help, I really appreciate the input
