1967 Eldorado need help!!!!

I have a 67 eldorado that I have been having alot of trouble with the engine on. I have a timing gun and I time my engine to were it runs tip top but if i drive it for a day to a show or some sort then the timing strays and it starts to run bad agian. It seems like i am timing it every day after i drive it. Why would this be?

What does the ignition system look like under the cap? How many miles does this have?

If you can return it to running well each time. Then I don't think it would be a stretched out timing chain that has jumped but isn't completely ruled out.

Is the distributor being tightned down? Usually a 5/16 nut. You need a special wrench.

NEED MORE IMPUT!!! you set the timing to what? 2 days later it strays to what? Static timing can move if point gap changes or the distributor moves. If the timing chain is that loose, the timing light would show a wavering, fluctuatingline on the crank pulley when you attempt to set it. I think your point gap changes and because of that, the static timing changes as well. Should be 30 degrees dwell for any V/8.

If you have not found your problem yet I think I would check the distributor. sounds like you have a advance problem, either va***n or machanical. I bet a new distributor would correct your problem. these weights and springs get old and dry out from lack of lubication as years go by. When this happens they will not return to 0 when the engine is shut down, therefoyou will never be able to do a correct timing.also the va***n can stick in the advanced position causing the same thing to happen. I had this problem to happen to me on my 1966 plymouth new distributor fixed it.I would consideranelectronic system as I did . This would solve all your ignition problems. I hopeI have helped you some, or at leastpointed you in the right direction.......NOW if I could find someone to help me on the engine vibration on new 08 CTS,I would be happy! the dealership surely has been no help. trip,

this sounds way weird .. if you were doing what I just read, eventually the distributor will go around all the way and the wires will be following .. is the timing always going the same way? does it go back and forth? details !

follow what carnut and katz said .. details, data, etc.
you are logging what happens, right? give us that.

satellite,

if you havent done it already, i suggest you start a thread with lots of details .. maybe we can help.
there not much to go on with that.
NEW THREAD ?
