02 Deville rear suspension
 

I'm up in the Northland for the week with my father-in-law and his Caddy. His rear suspension is awful, bottoms out sag wagon, and bouncy. No warnings on the dash, fuse looks good. Not sure where to start to look. He has had it seen at a dealer and said there is nothing wrong. I'm not that gullible. Your car shouldn't bounce sitting still. Any ideas where to to start to track any problems? I don't hear a pump. Where is it located?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like it needs shocks. Level ride compressor is behind shield above right muffler.

Hey there Ray. I actually have a 2001 deville that had the same similar problems with it. I reasearched it and reasearched it and then went to the dealer. What a mistake. They were going to charge me $2700 to do just the rear until I stumbled across Strutmasters. They helped me through all my problems diagnosed the vehicle over the phone and told me exactly what I need for a third of that price. I got my whole new rear passive suspension got rid of the air suspension has a similar ride for just under $ $700 Installed. If you are looking for a less expensive fix permanently give them a call and ask some questions. When I need the fronts they are where I am going byt far. The number is 866-597-2397 and ext 226 is who I dealt with. He will get you exactly what you need to get it up and running like a cadillac again.

If you need shocks/struts or an air compressor you may want to also check out Arnott. I installed the rear shocks on my 95 STS with them. Easy installation and saved tons of money.

I have a 2001 Deville. I got rid of the air ride and replaced it with Strutmasters conversion kit. You get both front struts complete with coils and both rear coil over shocks and censors to keep the dash lights from coming on for $699 free shipping. And payed less than $250 for the labor to have the parts installed. The car has a great ride.

I have had the same probem with my 2000 DTS. If you dont have alot of money to put into the car at the moment, what I did was purchased a set of hijacker air shocks from JC Whitney for about 70 bucks, 2 resistors from ebay(Strutmaster) $20. They are the same shocks for the base model Deville. I ran the airlines (comes witht the shocks) and drove the car to the gas station and filled the lines up with air, to where te car was leveled. The car does not bottom out anymore or bounce all over the place.

Monroe makes a direct replacement for the costly delco rear shock units for about half the price. I have a 2001 Deville DTS , I'm probably going to get the Monroe units to retain the original DTS ride features.

Royalet, I know it's been awhile but do you remember what size resistors you used. Did you have to mount them to steel body to dissipate heat? Did your air ride work afterward? Did you have to install resisters at all four wheels so suspen would become passive? Did the resistors fool ride control?
I have an 03' DTS and replaced rears (one was leaking)with Monroe MA850 air shocks (less $100 pr). GM replacement shocks were $550.00 each and probably more than cars worth.Ride is a little stiffer, rear end is a little higher when parked and inst panel show speed is limited to 90 mph. I am original owner, garage kept w/80,000 mi and a perfect grocery getter.
