89 Biarritz - key stuck can't turn off engine

Hi - Odd issue - I cannot turn off the car, firmly in park, done just about everything I can think of but I cannot switch off the engine and remove the key. I am now looking to remove the steering wheel to try and remove the ignition cylinder. Couple of questions - any idea how to release the key without major surgery, and any idea how to remove the steering wheel?. I seem to be stuck on teh steering wheel - I have removed the cover but can't see how to remove the wheel itself.

RE: 89 Biarritz - key stuck can't turn off engine

The actual ignition switch is mounted on the side of the steering column. Remove the under dash cover and unbolt the electrical ignition switch from the column. There is a rod that comes from the ignition lock down to this switch and by turning the key, slides to different contacts in this switch to energize the starter. To gain access to the ignition lock switch, you need to rent a steering wheel puller for a GM tilt/telescope column. The lock switch is accessed below the turn signal switch just under the wheel. Without this tool you'll never get to it.
