79 Eldorado bounces to right after hitting dip in road???
Hello--new to forum and looking forward to posting on your forum!
I have several of the 1979-85 Eldorados and one of my 79's with 62,000 original miles has a suspension problem that I hope somebody has the answer. So here goes. When I am driving the carhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png and I go thru a dip in the road the front of the car bounces to the right and not straight up and down. I haven't taken it to the alignment shop yet, but thought I would try to get some information from other owner's before I go to the alignment shop. I know they are "old" carshttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png, but these years were my favorite body style of the Late seventies and early eighties along with the Toro's and Rivieras. If anybody has the answer to this question, please let me know. Thanks in advancehttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png Thanks, Ken a.k.a. Caddyaddict |
Steering linkage parallelism adjustment 79-85 GM E Body
Understood this is a very old thread but if anyone is looking for the answer to this during a search I thought it was worth answering.....
The most common reasons for what the service manual refers to as "orbital steering" are a broken sway bar end link and second someone failed to adjust the idler arm to give the same height right to left comparing to the pitman arm side upper control arm to center of inner tie rod end. If you look in the service manual you will see the requirement for the 79-85 E Body requires the side to side difference to be within 2mm from side to side. This believe it or not makes a huge difference on these cars. T he capture is from the 79 Oldsmobile service manual if it appears... seems that when I reply the system is not showing the uploaded image?? |
