2005 CTS break lights

Replaced one about 3 months ago. now both left and right are out. Replaced both but they don't get brighter when I apply the break. Fuses have been checked they are fine, the break bar across the top at the rear window works fine. Anything else I can check or try??

Thanks, Leslie

P.S. Im a woman and not car save, go easy on the auto lingo terms with your response. This is new ground for me to be "fixing" my own car.

Check condition of sockets (thing that bulb goes in) for signs of overheating (burnt). If socket(s) are burnt, it will need to be replaced along with bulb. Auto parts stores sell a grease to reduce overheating of sockets. Beyond that you will need a book or someone to help you throught the basics of auto electronics. It's not hard to learn, but having someone to teach or guide you speeds up the process.

Now Im being told I may need to replace the electronic module for the break lights and that its located in the trunk??..... How much will one of these cost me and can I replace it myself??
