What does dealership mean "reprogramming"?
Been having ridiculous electrical gremlins with my 98 STS pretty much since I bought it. Recently replaced the RIM and the master power window control. Windows still weren't rolling down (none of them) & someone suggested I ask the dealership if it should be reprogrammed after an RIM swap. They said yes, to bring it in. Surprised? Yah...me either. My question is, what does this "reprogramming" entail, and am I able to do it on my own? I have a FSM on my computer - but it SO slow running (its a virtual machine on my laptop), I get frustrated every time I search for anything. I've searched through all forums & threads and couldn't find anything about reprogramming. Any help would be fabulous. Appreciate it in advance.

Only dealers have access to site to reprogram modules. Very few modules after Y2K are "plug & play" and some aren't re-programmable.

A lot of private shops have the equipment to do it. You will need a tech II or laptop with a pass thru pro or other programming module and a subscription to the GMSPS for the program. You are not limited to the dealer. It only takes a few minutes to do it.
