service air bag light

Well it it now time to call the dealer and make an appointment to have the air bags serviced because for 2 days now my DIC keeps telling me to check my gauges and then it tells me to " service my airbags" so it's hi ho, hi ho, off to the dealers I gofor the fix. I'm glad that I still have 6,000 miles of factory warranty left.

RE: service air bag light

After 2 days at the dealership my STS is finally fixed. They replaced the seat belt pretensioner which is what made the air bag light come on and they reprogrammed the transmission. They also told me I needed rear brake pads and they wanted $350 for it. I said no way to that one. I checked and Autozone has the je5 pads for $39.99 and I will install them myself and it won'tcost me a dime so it's $350 versus $40 now which one do you think I'll choose? Oh by the way my tranny shifts alot smoother at 30-40 mph when turning and no more chuggling.(LOL)

Good for you! $350 is a bit rich for a rear brake job, actually it is a bad joke.

After looking around for a while I finally found what I was searching for. From GM Parts direct I found my rear brake pads (JE5 brake system pn#89047757 I got the part number from the dealer after giving him my vin.) for @48.64 plus shippng.I am going to order a set today. They are OEM therefore the same pads the stealer was trying to sell me for $112 just for the pads and $350 installed. ARE THEY CRAZY or what?

RE: service air bag light

Friday I started to hear a faint squeal from my rearwheel so it was telling me that the pads were ready for a change.I went to Autozone and got their JE5 semi metalic pads for the rear for $22.95 and installed them myself. It took about 45 minutes from start to finish an was very easy. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would call it a 3. The Cadillac dealer wanted $350 and the Cadillac specialist around the corner from me wanted $195, man what a ripoff. That brake job is a $100 job at best.
