Gas Gussler Tax

I heard there was going to be a $3,000 gas guzzler tax on the all wheel drive STS. Can that be true? That's enough to make me look at something else.

That would make me turn as well. What about other gas guzzlers on the market? Are we being forced to use less gas? Now I'm concerned because that was my next "dream" car!!

I bought the '06 STS last week(12/21/05), the price included a $1,000 guzzler tax. Funny, my '02 Denali gets about the same mileage and there was no tax back in '02.

Trucks are usually exempt from the gas guzzler tax because they "could" be used for commercial purposes (original law intent).

If you look at a Hummer getting 9 mpg and no tax, and a Lambo with the same mileage, but $15k in gas guzzler tax, then you'd wonder also.

I think a recent issue of AutoWeek had a break down of gas guzzler tax according to gas mileage. It was interesting.

Also, since the large GM SUV's in 2006 should be getting cylinder deactivation (to increase gas mileage), you would think Caddy would get some of the goods too!!!

I wonder if the Escalade will get it? I know the 5.3L Vortec for the Chevy's will get the option...but don't know about the Escalade. Anyone know?

I bought an '06 STS AWD and there was no Gas Guzzler tax. I think it does apply on the V8 AWD models.

Yep, the '06 STS V8 is what I bought on 12/21/05, it had the $1,000 Guzzler tax here in Colorado. Gotta find a way to write that off on
taxes this year.
