Water pump/oil consumption

I had done my first oil change on my cady 2day and i noticed i have no leaks as far as OIL or Trany fluid. I did notice that there was a coolant leak on the bottom part of the waterpump and figured it needs replaced so i need to know if this is a diy project? and my next concern is the oil i know its been discussed on here several times but i am adding 1qt of oil about every 1000miles, and wanted to know if this is fairly normal?

Oil use a little high try W.O.T. see if if helps. Water pump requires special tool to replace.

are you saying i dont drive it hard enough? just kidding, i know these things use oil and i do lots of in town driving so i try to go out on the highway and open her up at least 2-3 times a month. That may not be enough then.? Also i am using synthetic oil to see if that may help.
And what kind of tool will i need for the water pump?

Hey I don't know how you drive, carbon build up on rings causing them to sticks. GM does not recommend to use synthetic oil in FWD engines, although I doubt it will hurt anything. Generally most owners don't "drive it like you stole it". I enjoy cruising in second, it makes for a fun ride....a thousands years ago I had a Firebird in the owners manual it said drive in SUPER for improved in town performance...???? Water pump requires a special tool designed to replace it.

i do drive my cady easy but today i decided to go do the wot tune up for about 30 min. and i think it runs alot better since it seemed a lil doggy at low rpms (3000rpm and less) Now it seems to pick up alot quicker so hopefully i can do this more often. and what is the special tool that i need for the water pump?

Northstar water pump remover/installer, available at some parts stores or online.
