Removing Front Cam Cover ????

I am taking my heads off to replace the head gaskets and do a little performance work to them as well as aftermarket cams, however I was wondering how you get the front cam cover off of the engine. The only spot i'm running into trouble is the drivers side where the cam comes out and attatches to the plastic pulley. Should it come off after you remove the 3 small bolts, and does this require taking that pulley off? I will be getting a repair manual and I'm sure that will be in there, but that won't be for another week or so. I would like to get as much done as soon as I can as I would like to do the work on the heads and get them back on the engine within a month.
Thanks in advance
Kyle

Pulley needs to come off to remove valve cover, special puller is required. You will have to wiggle cover around to slide it off shaft. Removing 3 little screws is not necessary unless replacing seal. Who are you getting cams from?

Alright, thanks. I'm getting the cams from CHRFab.com.

Northstars where the only engines in sevilles that had cam covers however....especially in the front, so didn't think year was that neccesary.
Its a 97 though.

I just broke the plastic pulley off and used a normal puller on the metal piece...just need to order my head gaskets now, got the heads off....So why in the world would they put the starter under the intake, considering the intake is one of the more PITA intakes.

It's not an uncommon location on engines with similiar layout. After all they have to put it somewhere.
