Car doenst always downshift?

I just got a 99 sts. Whenever Im driving slow enoughso it coulddown shift to first gear, and I try topunch it,itdoesnt alwaysshift back to first. It will usually try to accelerate in second. Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks

**EDIT**

When its in first gear and I push it to the floor it has very poor acceleration but then gets faster around 40. It seems like as if I dont even hav first gear. Anyone know whats wrong here?

Transmission kick down is electronically operated, not like old days with cables. Move your seat up a notch or two and make sure you hit the floor. I sometimes miss getting my kick down too, but it is all programmed. What Rickyd said is a good idea as well.

The car has 69,500. I think sometimes the car may be starting out in second rather than first hence the poor acceleration.

yes for sure take it and have the tranny pan dropped, filter, and fluid changed.... and probobly add a Lucas additive for your protection.... lol
