97 Seville Service - Steering System message

I have a 97 Seville with 125,000 miles. Within the last couple weeks, a message comes on stating "Service - Steering System" and the steering becomes noticeably stiffer. I found a message on a different site for a different year/model Cadillac with similar symptoms (but no message) that stated it could be a "sensor in the back of the p/s pump that changes the assist from full assist at slow speeds to not much assist at highway speeds."Does this sound right? And, is it dangerous to drive it this way, or is the worst that will happen is the stiffer steering, which is not a big deal to me.

Thanks for any assistance,

Tom

RE: 97 Seville Service - Steering System message

I don't know of any sensor in the pump on any northstar model.
You really need the code that is stored in memory in order to properly diag this problem.
