Thx ill try that do u no if the keys have to be reprogrammed with a new ecm?

It depends (keys). If you can't use your remote (if you have one), it'll need to be reprogrammed. But, if you can enter the car and turn it on, the keys/ECM are fine.

It sounds like it might be caused by the Idle Speed Control. The ISC is relatively easy to replace. Just remove the air intake, unscrew and unplug it. Make sure that when putting in the new one that it is calibrated correctly. It could be the ISC is keeping the idle high, which can cause a rich fuel mixture. Or a combination of the two: bad ISC and the computer telling the engine to run super-rich.

I used to drive a 1989 Sedan Deville, and the ISC was going bad before I traded it in. It wasn't that bad, but the engine idled real high constantly.

Another thing that I thought of.... if you have the DFI on you engine then maybe the Fuel Pressure Regulator is the problem. It is an internal part of the throttle body unit. A rebuild would fix that . If you have the carb model then a sticky needle valve or float. Choke not going all the way off when warm.

I'm pretty sure the 1989 Seville has the same engine as the Sedan Deville, the 4.5L TBI.
