2003 STS Third Brake Light Puzzler

A couple of weeks ago I noticed roughly 1/3 or maybe 1/4 of the lights in my third brake light were out on the far right side. I ordered a take-off from a 2003 STS, but a recent check of the original third brake light shows all the lights are lit, and all brighten when the brake pedal is applied. I would think if there's a short, all lights in the third brake light would be effected. Can anyone explain what might have happened to cause a contiguous portion of the third brake light not to work, and then function normally after a couple of weeks? Is it advisable to install the take-off recently purchased, or am I likely to see the same problem occur in time? Thanks for your help.

There is a narrow break in the circuit within lamp which depending on temperature connects and disconnects bulbs. Although I never tried it, I knew of people who took lamp a part and soldered circuit boards.

Circuit Boards Within 2003 STS Third Brake Light

Thanks for your reply, slowroll. Do you know if there are multiple circuit boards with the 2003 STS third brake light?
