2003 STS shifter stuck in P

2003 STS shifter stuck in P
So here I am in another city and the shifter is stuck in park! Yikes! What can I do? I tried to
- Turn off the engine , remove the key and restart - 4 times, no change
- I tried to remove (lift up) the wood trim plate around the shifter but it gets caught between the forward slanted shifter and the dashboard
HELP!
