Stitch in time....

My 1996 Fleetwood limo keeps me working...The other day I noticed the fabric that covers the center pillar between front door and middle door was torn.
You can't help rub it getting in and out of car and it was already thread bare ready to give way. The center pillar between the middle door and rear door is the
same unit. It is a lot less aged. The blue fabric is like headliner material although a little less foam backing that of course after 22 years has started to break down.
I switched units and now the driver door has the less worn unit, the other one I slipped a piece of iron on patch under tear and then stitched it as best I could by hand.
Then placed foil over stitch and heat with iron. It looks marginal but certainly better than ripped hole. My 1980 cad had colored molded plastic with subtle pattern.
I like that better since this fabric will keep deteriorating over time, eventually requiring careful removal and finding similar color and cutting pattern and gluing.
Like many other parts I will keep a lookout for salvaged car that may have better unit
