How to replace water pump 1933 Fleetwood
 

Hey Guys

I had my water pump on my 93 Fleetwod take a crap today. I want to change it myself! I see it's all tucked away and looks to be a rough job. Can someone tell me what I need to do to get to this thing? Do I have to disassemble everything? Any help would be great before I tackle the project!

Your engine is the traditional Chevrolet small block 350 first introduced in 1955 so it is a well known and straight forward repair. The factory service manual lists 11 steps before you can remove the water pump:
1. disconnect battery
2. remove fan blade assembly
3. remove serpentine belt
4. remove water pump pulley
5. drain radiator
6. Thermostat removal
7. drive belt tensioner removal
8. generator braces
9. generator and power steering bracketts
10. reposition left accessory bracket
11. remove water pump bolts
12. remove water pump
13. remove gaskets
14. clean block and gasket surfaces
15. new gaskets
16. new water pump
17. bolt in new water pump
18. go to 10 and work back to 1.

Do these instructions go for a 93 Fleetwood 4.9? I see the 5.7 listed.

Ooooops, need to get another FSM out for that one, 4.9 is in the Fleetwood Sixty Special which is FWD and transverse mounted Cadillac engine, not to be confused with the RWD Fleetwood and Fleetwood Brougham 5.7 Chevrolet engine in traditional placement.

1. Allow engine to cool
2. Drain coolant
3. Remove water pump drivebelt (loosen bolts on pulley while belt still tight)
4. Remove coolant resovoir
5. Remove water pump bolts that secure it to engine
6. Pull pump gently from engine ( lightly tap with soft faced hammer if stuck)
7. Clean gasket surfaces
8. Used thin coat of gasket sealer on new gasket
9. install new water pump
10. use sealant on bolts adjacent to water passages
11. toque bolts to spec:
Water pump pulley - 22 in/lbs
Water pump torx heads - 30 in/lbs
Lower hex heads - 60 in/lbs
Upper hex heads - 30 in/lbs
Stud nuts - 60 in/lbs
12. Go back and do 4 to 1 assembly
