59´Fleetwood speedometer

Hi,

I just bought myself a 1959 Fleetwood. I am located in Germany, and the car is fitted with a km/h speedometer that looks like the original mph speedometer so I am wondering if this might be an original. I found out, that Cadillac apparently built 60 Fleetwoods that went overseas, so my questions is, where those fitted with km/h speedometers, and has someone access to the frame numbers of those 60 Cadillacs, so I could check with mine?

Thanks

Yes they were. All American cars had the conversion, not just Cadillacs. Later in the 80's and 90's speedometers had both MPH and KMH dials and were not all converted. This conversion would also occur with Canadian vehicles.

1975 first time in Canada

Cars sold in Canada first had Km/h starting in 1975 but both scales appeared and in most cases still do to this day. If you have a digital speedo for example it can be switched between imperial measure and metric. Speed limit on most controlled access highways is 100 Km/h which is about 62 MPH.
