1995 Fleetwood Brougham problems starting

My 1995 Fleetwood with the corvette engine died on the interstate. I heard poooomp, it died and I towed it home. It turns over but doesn't fire. My son said it was the distributor but a rebuilt one from Napa has done no good. Replaced coil. No good. How do I tell for sure it's the distributor? The spark plugs are getting no spark. My son put some kind of light on the distributor and said he wasn't getting the low res signal. Sorry, I am not mechanical so I have no idea what to do next. GM sells the cap, but my son said his checks mean it's something down in the distributor, not the cap. Could I have gotten a bad distributor? Anyone have any advice on this? It only has 89000 mile on it.

Optispark failure?

The optispark distributor is well known to be a failure point but there are a videos on YouTube discussing other possible failure points before disassembling the front of the engine to replace it. That being said aftermarket replacements have a very poor reputation for being bad right out of the box....
