1989 Fleetwood won't start

I have a recurring problem with my cadillac. More increasingly I will get into the car and it won't start. It's not an electrical problem as I've had the car checked out for this and major work was done on the car recently for this.

After I let the car sit for at least 8 hours, it will start with no problem. Once all we had to do was wait for one hour and it started, but usually it will take longer before it will start.

We've had the car towed, and had mechanics look at it, but because it starts up when they see it they are scratching their heads.

This car has been almost rebuilt and has had exceptional care throughout it years.

I'm thinking fuel line, but need some good advice if anyone knows what this could be.

One more thing, after we inherited this car we found out the fuel gauge does not work. We took it to the cadillac dealership and they replaced the gauge, but the used part still does not work. I don't know if this has anything to do with part of our problem.

Also forgot to mention that the car does crank when this is happening.
Thank you.
