1986 Fleetwood d'Elegance .... need AC part
My AC has quit working. Did a complete system diagnostic and came up with the diode in the compressor clutch plug being bad. The diode is contained in the plug that connects behind the AC clutch. The wire is about 4 to 5 inches long with a small plastic plug that plugs into a drop from the wiring harness. The other end has the larger, black rubber plug that connects behind the clutch.
The dealer tells me the part has been discontinued. I have seen a website that had aftermarket AC parts and carried this part. I cannot find that site again. Does anyone here have a source for this part? Thanks, Klaus Dieter Cook Houston, Texas |

To my understanding that diode is there for radio suppression. Connects between the positive wire and neg. wire at the clutch coil. Hard to believe that item would not allow voltage to the clutch.

Diodes are available from radio shack. They only go one way; if its installed wrong it will "pop" like a fuse as soon as compressor is turned on.

Thanks for the replies, guys......I finally found what I was looking for. In case anyone else has this problem, here is the link:
http://www.repairconnector.com/index...id/0/id/293681 The diode is not for radio noise suppression, but to protect the electronics of the ECC from the high reverse voltage generated by the A/C coil field collapse. This can be as high as several hundred volts. Klaus Dieter Cook Houston, Texas |
