Kill Switch

Hi Everyone!! I am a new owner and concerned that my EXT with OEM 22's and such will get stolen. Is a kill switch a good thing? to get? Thanks for the help!

What region do you live in?

Also a kill switch won't keep anyone from taking the wheels. It seems sometimes we pay the price in order to have nice things, what a shame.

Hi Gary! Thanks for the reply! I live int he Dallas/FT Worth Area . I will have to ask what my son has as far as an locking system for his 22's as his truck is a Dodge. His was stolen in 2004 but they could not get the wheels off so they took the seats and left the tires and rims. The Police were very suprised. It was gone a week. I do know he had a kill switch put on as we paid for it. My EXT has the chrome and such and we didn't think about theft prevention but now I am a bit concerned. We have just bought our EXT this weekend so were real Newbies!! and reading on the net about the EXT getting jacked well its a bit scary and maybe I should have gotten the Gap Insurance!!

IMO, a 30 sec delay kill switch is the best deterent. why?

the thiefs will hot wire the car and drive it off and hopefully stall in the middle of the street,
abandon the car and run.

there is also this thing called lowjack?
if you put enough anti-theft gismos the bad guys will search for an easier target.

The Club,
The Brake Pedal club,
LowJack
Chain across and through each wheel,
etc ...

on the other hand, if you got the right insurance, you sleep well.

i knew a guy that tucked the wheels inside the fenders and dropped the
car to the ground .. hydraulics with a electronic remote controller.

have you seen the Batman movies and the lockdown the car does?

Ravelco? good way to go?

RE: Kill Switch

Ravelco is pretty impressive and a price tag to go along.
will the thieves learn to bypass it soon? your guess is .....

maybe i'm old fashion, but if you look at page #6 of the link,
"Time Delay Switch", you will see my favorite. i dont even bother
with the key portion as i used a toggle switch, well hidden but accesible.
delay switch lets engine run for less than one minute and then powers it down.
enough to pull out of the parking slot and stall in a prominent spot.

of TWO attempts on my cars, driven maybe a block away and cars stalled
in the middle of street. cars abandoned by the thiefs.
both times "Time delay switch" worked.

5 years ago, i had another attempt on a car with state-of-the-art alarm,
car gone, found in Mexico stripped. i hadnt bother to put in a delay switch
cuz of the high tech alarms. so much for that.

etching the vehicle VIN on the wheels (and glass) may also be a good idea,
since no alarm or theft device will stop a thief from using a jack and a bottle
of liquid nitrogen to freeze and break off the wheel locks with a peenball hammer.
make sure there is a label that advices the VIN is etched on the wheels to deter
any attempts - if the thief stops to read.
