Power Steering problem

I started my 84 Eldo and left it running for about 1/2 hour. I came outside and noticed fluids on the driveway. I checked the engine compartment and noticed that power steering fluid had poured out of the reservoir. I checked the reservoir and the fluid was bubbling. I put the car in reverse and turned the car off. I then noticed oil leaking as well. I had a new engine (HT 4.1)install and have only driven it for about 300 miles, WHATS UP ?? [:@]

RE: Power Steering problem

Bubbles in a hydralic system (steering for example) means one thing, air in the system. I would start checking your power steering lines, and the housing of the pump and the resivoir for cracks. Perhaps when the new motor was put in the pump was damaged. Did you do the motor install yourself if not where was is done? Was the pump primed before installed? If not air would remail in the system and bleed out through the easiest way out, which would most likeley be the cap unless you have a crack or loose line. Hopefully the air will work its way out under full travel with the cap off (car not moving of course). Let us know what you find out

[X(] I fill the reserve and it all leaked out at the bottom near the supply line, well looks like a little work has to be done to get her on the road this summer.

RE: Power Steering problem

radz is correct.

find the leaks, fill it and then BLEED the system of all AIR ...

often people install new PS pumps and fail to bleed the system.

the compression characteristics of air and hycraulic fluids are
very different and they dont co-exist well.

same applies here that applies to the brake system.

NO AIR ALLOWED.

RE: Power Steering problem

most vented hydraulics systems and P.S. systems will bleed the system by taking the
system to its opposite operational extremes.

in a car, turn steering wheel all the way to the left and hold, then turn it all the way to the right and hold.

repeat a couple of times ...
