I've dealt with GM in the tank pumps and gauge arms before. Sometimes they give you a "port" thru the body so you don't have to drop the tank and sometimes they don't. Either way its not to hard, make sure the tank is pretty empty if you can.
Also, I have a 2000 Eldorado, please post back I would like to hear how it went.

'98& up Seville and '00&up deVille have trunk access panels for fuel pump replacement. You Eldo guys are S.O.L. -need to drop the tank for fuel pump service. The trade-off is that the Eldo is way cooler than the Seville and deVille.

Dropping tank is not to bad depending on how high you can raise rear of car. You will nee need to take exhaust off the hangers and move it over. There is a heat shield that should be taken loose , but I have know a few who bent the crap out of it. Fuel lines and filler neck clamps are not to bad but you will want to have quick connect tool. 7,10, and 15mm sockets. Don't kink the nylon fuel lines. Some sending units will come with fuel pump.
