Carbon build up?

RE: NORHTSTAR ENGINE KNOCK

definately fill up on your oil and coolant. Take her out onto the highway, or a low traffic road that you can put it into 2nd and step on it for at the least 1/4 mile. Then run normal for a mile or so..and do it again. Turn it around and bring her home. Maybe doing 1 more WOT test. This will help get rid of the carbon build up, which is very common in northstar engines.

Butwith it only having 50% oil like you said...that could be it. When I had my97 ranger, with 120K + miles on it..If I need to add 1qrt I would get a mild knock at startup when cold.

Maybe just do a complete oil change for that matter...if its only at 50%. You could get a better visable on the condition of the oil.
