I need lots of help!!

ok, so I have a few problems..

1. I havea 79 elderado w/ the efi 350 olds engine, I have narrowd the problem to the temp sensor... where the hell do I find one? I have looked EVERYWHERE and cant seem to get my hands on one!!

2. I have another 79, again with the efi 350 engine, seems to run rich (spits black crap (asuming its unburned fuel) and dies under hard acceleration) ideas?

Hey cr: On the temp. sensor issue go to www.usapartssupply.com . The sensors are about $120.00 and they can ship it to you. Order their catalog too as you can look through it for any other parts you may need. On the number two car you will probably need the ECM. My Fleetwood was doing the same thing when I bought it and the ECM replacement cleaned it up. If the ECM is not managing all the informationfor the EFI and the sensors properly then you will get running rich conditions and poor performance. I picked one up from my parts supply store for about $160 (factory rebuilt) and it did the job. They have them in the catalogue I mentioned but are more money.Good luck with that.

RE: I need lots of help!!

on your #2, if it spits black crap on a restart AFTER the engine is warned up,
i be testing the coolant sensor.

it is an easy test. pull the connector and put a voltmeter across the sensor lead with
cold engine, start engine and see if there is a change. another way is to pull it and
do the same thing over a stove fire with the sensor in a pot of water.

if the coolant sensor is dead, the ECM thinks the engine is cold and trows extra fuel at it,
therefore the spits of black crap out the exhaust.

of course, all this assumes the ECM is working correctly.
