Tranny and Hood release Problems

First the tranny: It all started when I was driveing my son to school and the tranny slipped going from 3rd to 4th as if it was going into neutral. That was last week now it feels as if it's not shifting into 3rd but if I shift from 3rd to 2nd via the gear shift lever I can feel the down shift. What gives? Second the Hood Release cable has broken up by the lock mechanism and I can't open the hood. How do I get the hood open to replace the cable?

RE: Tranny and Hood release Problems

I never had the hood release break on my Deville but it did on a 92 Bonneville. I gained access from the grille, made up a tool using a coat hanger and popped the latch. Once you get it open check the tranny fluid level, low level most likely the cause.

RE: Tranny and Hood release Problems

Got the Hood open by popping the spring that is on the right hand pivot pin and bounced on the hood . Does anybody know if it is normal for tranny fluid to be in the side cover where the shift solinoids are? There was about half a gallon.
