headlight lens covers faded
 

Can anyone tell me if there is anything that can clean my fading headlight lens?. I have also seen a guy who replace his 1999 deville headlights with some aftermarket euro lights, they made the car look very sharp and new. Help me out

I would recommend COMPOUND. the thick type, just becareful when applying it. Do NOT use it on the pant. cus it is thick. and scrub it a lot and then buff it off, but use a small amount of water to most the wax up and buff it to a clean shine, if not there are products but i am not to sure what to use, normally this way works for me in the detailing process. I learned it from LOWRIDER MAGAZINE.

i have an '02 dts and just put the silver star lights in her to replace the high and low beams. definitely adds to the look and not too expensive. got them at autozone for ~20/light. good luck!!

Permatex makes a little kit with sandpaper, rubbing or polishing compound, and polishing cloth. I found it at an Autozone, I believe. It's a bit pricey but if the clouding is not too bad, one kit will do. I used it on an old Dodge truck with horribly faded and sandblasted headlight lenses and it worked miracles. Just follow the instructions. You would think the sandpaper would make it worse, but if you use the ultrafine stuff it does not.

This is some great information. I had faded lenses on one of my cars a few years ago, and not hearing anything like on these posts, I just bought new headlights at a few hundred bucks. I'll remember this next time.

hello liljohn, i tried a product by Meguiars called PlastX. i found it in Autozone and man does it work on faded lenses. you may have to apply and buff about 2 times. but the results are amazing to only cost between $6-$12. if you try it tell me how it did.

In brief, the headlight lenses are made of a similar material as the PAINT.

I have refinished several lenses; both headlights, tail lights, reflectors, etc., by sanding and rubbing compounds as one would do a LACQUER paint job.

The kits are basically that, sandpaper, rubbing compounds, polishing compounds, wax & instructions.

Doing this makes a world of difference on any older car.

ONE LAST piece of advice?

WAX the lenses, reflectors, tail lights, etc. .. just like you would wax the paint; they will retain their clearness and brightness if you do that.

To make your headlight covers clear again, first, you need to get some rubbing compound from DUPONT PEP BOYS to remove those that makes that certain part faded.Polish the plastic, and the gray will come right off, and then get some good car WAX, and apply it on the plastic lens and then you're done.I hope this one would help.

Try using some really light grit sand paper, maybe 1200 ..then buff it back out with plastic polish. Mother's works awesome. There are several cadillac accessories stores that sell stuff for this type of thing.
