fuel gauge issue

my fuel gauge always stays about 2-3 gallons more than what I really have untill I get down to half tank or less. then it goes back up around full. and sitting still it jumps around

You need a sender unfortunely, pricey. GM sells an additive designed to cleaned clean deposits from sender which is worth trying.
