Can I......

I have read the sticky about the head gasket replacement BY THE BOOK on the 98 Deville. Can I replace the head gaskets without removing the engine as stated by the book?I have a 96 Concours, but I dont think it matters. I am very mechanically inclined and do not mind doing this job myself to save thousands on a shop to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It can be done, however if you pull treads you are screwed and engine will have to come out.

What do you mean by "pull the threads"? If you are referring to stripping the threads or snapping a bolt, how common is that to do on these engines?

save yourself the trouble and pull the motor. the guy that did mine said it saves a lot of time and fuss. he had mine out in no time. dropped out under the car. then once it was on the stand obviously it was accessible. hope it goes smooth.

I am probably gonna get flamed for this question, but does anyone have any experience with the thermagasket stuff? I know it is a band-aid, but what is everyones take on it?

Pulling threads means when you go to tighten head bolts, they wont torque to spec, bolt justs turns. Mircule cure in a bottle not recommended. Some have disclaimers not for Northstar engine.

Actually, go to the top of this page, click on search, type in thermogasket and click on the first thread.
