98 Deville

How do I get better than 14mpg on my 98 Deville's Northstar?
What needs to be tuned up?

The winter is the worst time of the year for gas mileage. What are your driving habits? Is this all city stop and go? If yes that's about what you'll get. Give us an idea of your average driving week with distances then maybe we can suggest some things.

I drive a 98 42 miles a day to and from work. I average about 40 mph and get 22-23 mpg. If I drive it around town with a avg speed of 20 mph the mileage drops to 15-16 mpg. These are very speed sensitive vehicles when it comes to mileage.

one way to improve mpg is to have all tires properly inflated and to have a clean air filter. Getting fuel injector service done also helps. The list can go on and on such as new plugs and wires and new fuel filter. Just try to do a tune up and watch your driving habits too. If you live in a city that may be hard if they have stop lights every block like my city i average about 13-14mpg on bad days and about 15mpg on a good day.

I forgot to mention, I keep my tires at 35 psi (cold). I recently noticed a drop in mileage and it was a rear tire down to 25 psi. It seemed to cost about .2-.3 mpg on my daily run.
