Hello all,
I'm new to the forum and tried to search this, with no luck. My grandmother's 97 Deville has had a series of issues. It started with the gas gauge not working properly. They just used the trip to know when to refuel. Next, the ABS, Traction Control, and CEL came on.. took it to get codes pulled with no luck. And now the spedometer, odometer, trip do not work.
Anyone have any ideas or can point me in the right direction? Not trying to take it to the dealership and pay an arm and a leg to just diagnose it.

First you need factory service manuals - ebay. With the different problems I would look at positive battery cable. There where issues with positive battery post leaking acid into cables causing low voltage concerns. The cable runs to an electrical center on left front under cover, low voltage will cause multiple conditions.

 

If that is the case, do I replace the battery or the cables, or both?

Yes with preferably oem cables. You really only need to replace the corroded cable, the wire will be green or a rust red. The main thing is to check voltage to and from fuses to start. Also have battery tested to be sure it's 100%. You may end up at dealer to find out all the codes that are store.
