97 Deville----ABS & Traction Control LIGHT

Hello to everyone as i am new to forum. I have several question as i am in a bind over my new caddy.

I just bought a new Cadillac Deville 4.6L with 137,000 miles and the ABS & Traction Control lights came on the digital dashboard with no other message. It all came up as i was driving to work for no particular reason. The day before i had taken off the driver side tire to check why the brakes were making noise and i came across metalic brakes so i didn't even touch them then i put the tire back. I checked the sensor connector for both front wheels and they seem fine. As to OBD II codes i am not familiar with them and know very little so i have not taken my car to get them done to see if they show something. On another issue the car has no Heat or AC whatsoever. I have checked all the fuses trunk and hood and replaced some but no use. I bought and replaced the hood AC relay but no good. Some people have told me to replace the blower motor but i want to make sure that the blower is the problem reguarding the no heat and ac issue. Is there anyway to test the blower motor and find out if it works or not and is there also a way to find outthe issue with the ABS and Traction Control light?

Thanx for your help in advance.

RE: 97 Deville----ABS & Traction Control LIGHT

I would think that a problem with both the AC and heater would have to be something that is common to both of them,
so the blower is a good place to start. As far as testiing it, just turn the fan on high. You should be able to hear the blower.
I had the same problem on my dad's ford escort, and it was a thermostat, which was located in the blower motor assembly.
If you can access the blower motor, and disconnect it electrically, you can "Ohm it out" with a DMM. Since it's just a big electro-magnet,
it should only read a few Ohms. If it reads high impedance ( > 1000 Ohms), then the motor is bad.

I have the same TC and ABS light issue on my daughters Catera. I hooked up an ODB II to it, but it came back with no errors.
That's actually why I'm on the forum tonight. Our catera has a very slight "shimmy" when you drive, so I'm thinking there is an alignment issue.
I let you know what I discover.

RE: 97 Deville----ABS & Traction Control LIGHT

Hey Dave i solved my prob with the blower motor, the issue was that there was no motor at all in the compartment. There was only the casing of the back of the motor with the plugs, i went ahead and bought a new one and when i removed it i found out that it had no motor, that solved my problem. In regards to the Traction Control and ABS light i was reading on a site that 97 Devilles had a recall because of that issue. The ABS module would malfunction taking down the Traction Control module along with it. I take it a simple drive to the dealer will fix that but i have not done due to time restrictions. Anyway i hope this bit of info was usefull with your daughter's problem also.
