1990 deville front struts and springs questions

ok well the strut bearings are shot (groan and clunk when turning the wheels right and left) and then I started thinking about getting new struts. I plan on getting some struts and then I was thinking I wonder if I should get springs as well?

So now im looking at the dozen spring choices at rockauto.

cuz they have some that are variable rate others list with free height and loaded height with the following brands Raybestos, Moog, Husky, and delco. to bad the delco listing doesnt give the heights. The delco is not variable for the front, and list both for the rear.

how do i know which ones to get?
Is there a way to look at the springs I have and tell?

Or should i say F that and not worry about springs?

This car came with standard breaks and HD breaks, maybe the car with HD brakes had variable springs?? so then I need the non-variable ones?

well I went with the $50 raybestos set, they look exactly like the $65 acdelco set.

also order some monroe front struts on sale for $18 a piece, some new bellows and the bump stop. My bellows are all F'ed up and i dont even see a rubber bumper.

Ill probably throw up a few pics of how I changed them out kinda like i did with putting in a new fuel pump.

well i forgot to take pics while I disassembled and reassembled the struts. but for what its worth here is the passage side with the new strut, spring, bellow, bump stop, and bearing. (the bump stop and bearing you cant see)

FWIW here is a pic of the old ones:

they had little resistance and no gas charge left as you can see they dont even push the rod back out. so I guess I had basically just spring suspension in the front... cant want to see how the new ones feel.
